Performance Evaluation of the ServerNet R SAN under Self-Similar Traffic
نویسندگان
چکیده
Self-similar traffic distributions have been observed in a wide range of networking applications and models such as LANs, WANs, telnet, FTP, WWW, ISDN, SS7 and VBR traffic over ATM. Therefore, it has been suggested that many other theoretical protocols and systems need to be reevaluated under this different type of traffic before practical implementations potentially show their faults. The ServerNet SAN is a new core technology for server architectures that focuses on moving data. It is a wormholerouted, packet-switched, point-to-point network with special attention paid to reducing latency and assuring reliability. In this paper we investigate the implications of selfsimilar traffic distributions in the ServerNet SAN, and compare the results with those obtained on the basis of the Poisson assumption.

Performance Evaluation of a Hardware Implementation of VIA
Virtual Interface Architecture (VIA) is the industry effort to standardize communication paradigms for System Area Networks (SAN). Its design focuses on providing low-latency, high-bandwidth, end-to-end communication of two processes in the cluster. To achieve this aim, VIA defines a set of functions, data structures and associated semantics to access the network interface directly, bypassing t...
متن کاملThe effect of the router arbitration policy on the scalability of ServerNet™ topologies
In this paper we extend a previously introduced method for optimizing the arbitration policy employed by ServerNet routers and we evaluate the method's effect on scalability. The ServerNet System Area Network (SAN), developed by Tandem Computers Inc., is a wormhole-routed, packet-switched, point-to-point network, with special attention paid to reducing latency and to assuring reliability. The S...
متن کاملThe Record-Breaking Terabyte Sort on a Compaq Cluster
Sandia National Laboratories (U.S. Department of Energy) and Compaq Computer Corporation built a 72-node Windows NT cluster, which Sandia utilizes for production work contracted by the U.S. government. Recently, Sandia and Compaq's Tandem Division collaborated on a project to run a 1-terabyte commercial-quality scalable sort on this cluster. The audited result was a new world record of 46.9 min...
متن کاملStorage and Mirroring in Single and Dual Section Metro WDM Rings under Different Traffic Scenarios
technique for storage area networks (SANs) in a metropolitan wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) ring scenario. Sectioning links are introduced to the ring to help deal with the hot node (SAN node on ring) scenarios created by the SANs and their mirrors. Two network architectures are studied: The first architecture accommodates conventional access nodes and a single SAN and its mirror, the l...
متن کاملStudy of Delay and Loss Behavior of Internet Switch-Markovian Modelling Using Circulant Markov Modulated Poisson Process (CMMPP)
Most of the classical self-similar traffic models are asymptotic in nature. Therefore, it is crucial for an appropriate buffer design of a switch and queuing based performance evaluation. In this paper, we investigate delay and loss behavior of the switch under self-similar fixed length packet traffic by modeling it as CMMPP/D/1 and CMMPP/D/1/K, respectively, where Circulant Markov Modulated Po...
